What can you add?

Humm, what shall I add ?

I was born at the end of the "baby boom" yep I am one of the last baby boomers!

I have been married to my best friend for soon to be 41 yrs. We have four lovely children (two boys and two girls), and two beautiful grand-daughters.

The persuit of my roots, has been an on going thing (near addiction) for the last 30 yrs. My mother did a lot of putting together of my Terrill/Beach ancestry. So I have been around the genealogy world for a few years! Cememteries are my friend! Oh and I get excited at names on mail boxes too!

I am at this point working on my Father's family. Which include such folks as Elizabeth Fones, Robert Jackson,William Hallett Sr, and William Hallett Jr. I also have some recent ancestors (great grandfather) who came from Scotland in 1888, which gives me great interest in all things Scottish.

I have one Brick Wall that is driving me nuts! I have yet, other then DAR Application for John McCartney [1] , conclusively attached my 4th great grand-father Isaiah McCartney to his supposed father and mother John McCartney Margaret Clyde of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania between 1740-1780. I do have a copy of Ocsar Burton Robins [2] which gives some information about the connection, but some of the information is questionable (to me ) so I seek more concrete evidence for the connection of the two men and their famlies.

I have been around the genenalogy world for a few decades. My mother has put together a good part of my Terrill/Beach genealogy. We visited grave yards, libraries. I in ernest started working on my McCartney family line about 20 yrs ago and before that I worked my husbands lines when his Aunt gave me a 6 and 7 generation chart in some places. It amazes me how the much the people in the south seem to know and care about who their ancestors were.

The Golden Gates Genealogy Forum that was on AOL is where I continued to learn how to do genealogical research. There are/where some awesome folks with tons of knowledge that spent time in the different Special Interest Groups. Some of the best genealogists that I have had the pleasure to know. I hosted there (taught and made sure things went smoothly in the chats) for abour 4 years. I taught in the General Genealogy and Beginners SIGs.

There is a website, that has my thoughts and some family stories that I have written down at [http://www.jayrays.com/Wandering_Roots/ Wandering Roots ---

Julie's From Where?

I am from the sunny hill country, from peaches, apples and Longaberger Baskets.

I am from an adobe home in the shinning sun, from a bungalow shaded under a maple tree on a quiet little street in an awakening town. I am from the land of the Maple, Pine and the mighty Oak. Graced for a time with the mighty Saguaro, the state flower I dwelt under as a very young child.

I am from Terrill, McCartney, Upson, Ogilvie and many more. From hard workers, make doers, from preachers and teacher all who had joy and sorrow and lives like us all.

I am from the farmer that plowed the fields or gathered fruit and the minister who tended to a different kind of fruit and tended a loving flock.

I am from a family that thought of others and believed in the golden rule. We were told to do our best and to be happy in our circumstances. If we had a chance to improve then we should. To understand that it not the money one makes, but what of value you're living left behind that was of importance.

I am from the Puritan and Presbyterian all seeking to praise their Lord in freedom. I now enjoy that freedom as a Baptist.

I'm from the Firelands stretching all the way back to the landing place of my ancestors at the City on The Hill. Benton, Rowley, New Haven, Ashtabula, Yorkshire, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire are all places that were called home. I am from corn beef and cabbage to Waldorf salad.

From the veterinarians turned doctors, the soldiers and the chemists and all the ladies that stood beside them.

I am from lake sides, riversides and mountains grand, a back yard safe and secure to the tram climbing some majestic mountain side. From an orchard that surrounds a cozy cape cod, to a loving home by the side of the road. I am from all these and more. I hale from ancient blood and foreign lands. I am the culmination of all these.

The above poem was written by suggestion of Randy Seaver Genea-Musings Genealogy Fun projects. I thought it would fit very nicely here

Hi Julia,

It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator

Hi Sheena,

I want to continue as a project member. I have been working quite a bit on my tree's Ogilvie/Ogilvy portion. I am happy with being on the Clan Ogilvie team. I would like to be able to finish up the Clan Ogilvy page, but I do not have the ability to edit. I can't think of anything pressing to ask the team about! I forgot I am also on the Menzies team and happy to stay there, have done a bit of work on Menzies but not a lot.

Hi Julia,

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately we had to green-lock the Clan pages as non-project members were editing them I've asked Doug if he can add you to the trusted list for that page.

Sheena

Thank You, Sheena, for your help with this matter!
Hi Julia,

Milo Frank McCartney was my great grandfather - my father’s grandfather. Married to Ila Faye Merideth. I knew them both well. I’m currently researching both sides. I have some names and dates for Silas and Nancy Curl Terry-McCartney. Small world!

Hi Pamela! Small world indeed! I would love to have dates.

Do you recall anyone mentioning SJ's second very short marriage?

Hi Julia!

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's "Year of Connections" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hi Amy!

Let me think about this!

I am still here and getting on when I can!

I promise to get back to you with some kind of insight 🙂 Julie

Hi Julia,

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Regards Joan

Hi Joan,

Presently working through the Tartan Trail! Thank you for letting me know and removing the badge! Regards Julie

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hi Amy! I am using groups for connecting with projects. I am happy with teams. I would like to help improve Perthshire and Kinross categories but am not sure how to or where to start.

Also, I was not asked to do the Tartan Trail when I moved over from UK group. I would like to do that, to strengthen the profiles I work on.

Julie

Hi, Julia!

Thank you for your participation in October 2020’s Source-a-thon. Your contributions helped us to clear over 57,000 profiles that needed sourcing. This makes our Shared Tree all that much better.

Keep up the great work!

Hello

My name is Amy and I’m a Co-Leader of the Scotland Project. As you may have heard, we have merged the Scottish Clans project into the Scotland Project. I am contacting you today to find out if you are interested in continuing with us under this new format. I see you have previously expressed an interest in Clan Ogilvie and Clan Menzies. Would you like me to add you to those teams?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Amy Gilpin, Scotland Project Co-Leader

Hi Amy,

Yes, I would like that. I am not really active at the moment, but I do intend on getting back to the drawing board so to speak.

Julie

Hi Julia,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hello

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

If the links cannot be seen in your email message, please view the message on your personal page.

Questions! Just ask. We want to help!

Hi Julia

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles.

It looks like Canadian History Project with many subproject, or Puritan Great Migration Project in addition to the Project for United Kingdom which covers England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland. would be a good fit with the tag you entered.

If you choose additional projects, just add another tag to get updates about activity for that projects.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
