I am the Team Leader in Training for the US Black Heritage Project Kentucky Team If you wish to know more about black ancestry in Kentucky, or even think you may be able to help, get in touch.
At present doing my own family tree here on Wikitree will occur as I document those persons enslaved by my paternal ancestors. My family tree is on Ancestry.

Karen was born in New Jersey to a mother from Massachusetts and a father from Arkansas. Because extended family was far away, the connection to cousins was passing and the whole business of family trees rarely crossed her mind.
The youngest of four siblings raised in the 1960's she had an expansive upbringing. Subsequently she has had wide ranging interests and careers: art, art teacher, baker & pastry chef, finally settling down as a yoga teacher and yoga therapist. She owned a large yoga studio for 20 years that had a mission to serve a diverse range of students.
She currently sees clients 1:1 online for yoga therapy and somatic experiencing.[2] Her specialty is healing the nervous system from trauma, including tran-generaltional trauma.[3]
In addition to being a life-long yogini, Karen has had a lifetime practice of animism and shamanism, despite her Methodist upbringing. A major part of Karen's spiritual path is ancestral medicine, healing the ancestors, which is what led her to her unanticipated work in genealogy.[4]
Karen is currently focused on her paternal ancestors in Kentucky and Virginia, who in the 17th - 19th century were for the most part slave owners. In addition to documenting their lives, she is super focused on uncovering information about the people they enslaved, with hopes of connecting them to their descendants.

I don't seem to be on the Google Group, and I don't know how to sign up for it. Could you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Karen
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

I've been following a guide from the US Black Heritage Project and have been doing well enough with starting my tree.
