Marie Philomène Alphonsine Lepage was born and baptized on 16 Jun 1856 in Saint-Germain parish in Rimouski, Canada East. She was the daughter of Ulger Lepage, farmer, and Arsene Castonguay. Sponsors at Alphonsine's baptism were Antoine Paquet and Elizabeth Lepage; neither sponsor signed the register.
