Biography

Giuseppa L'Ala is born and baptized 31 October 1835 in Corleone, named after her paternal grandmother. She is the daughter of Vincenzo L'Ala and Antonina lo Bello, born a month and a half after her parents marry. Her godparents are Francesco Zangara and Bernarda di Miceli, wife of Maestro Giuseppe.^[1][2]

By the time her father dies in the 1837 cholera epidemic, he is called a maestro.

Donna Giuseppa is 14 when she marries Don Gioachino Ferro on 6 July 1850, before she is fifteen years old. Her mother is still living.^[3]

Giuseppa and Gioachino have at least four children: Vincenzo (1853), Giuseppa (c. 1858), Bernardino (1866), and Maria (c. 1867).

Vincenzo is born 5 December 1853 and baptized the next day, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Maestro Giovanni Ala and Antonia lo Bello, a married couple.^[4]

I estimate Giuseppa is born around 1858, twenty years before she marries.

Bernardo is born 3 July 1866 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Bernardo Mancuso and Giuseppe Sclafani, a married couple.^[5]

I estimate Maria is born around 1867, twenty years before she marries.

Giuseppa marries Marino Vincenzo Paolo Guarino, from Napoli, on 28 February 1878. Her mother, Giuseppa, has died by this time.^[6]

Maria marries Giuseppe Trapani on 6 July 1887. Third degree consanguinity is detected, and a dispensation obtained from Monreale on 8 June 1887. Her father has died by this time.^[7]

In 1914, Bernardo is the first socialist mayor of Corleone. He is killed by the Mafia (of which he is a member) the following year.
