Biography

George Kring Feb. 22, 1766 ~ Nov. 23, 1844

George Kring, 78, of Elton, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday after noon at his home. George was born on Feb. 22, 1766, in Lancaster County, PA.. The first child of Johan Jost and Anna Kring, of Elton PA.. George was the FIRST generation Kring born in the U.S.A..

George's occupation was a shoemaker, a farmer and a minister. His church was the German Reformed and Evangelical Association.

As a youth, George spent most of his time making boots, harnesses, and shoes for George Washington's army. George had to divide his time between the boot shop and helping his father work their homestead. George hated working indoors, he wanted to be outside, running through the fields, walking in the woods, enjoying Nature. With the War raging in the east, George really wanted to join the army, and be a Drummer Boy, it didn't take long for his father to discourage such thoughts. So in the Boot Shop, George would stay.

In the spring of 1789, in Somerset, PA., George married the former Marie Elizabeth Ling, (1770-_ ___). The daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth (Rao) Ling, of Somerset. Through the union of George and Marie, three sons were born; George Jr. (1789-1867), Frederick (1790-1862), and John Kring (1793-1800).

(We have no confirm date of Maria's death. She died shortly after the birth of John) Maria was buried on the Kring Homestead, no headstone was placed, or could be found, that marked the location of the grave.

In April of 1794, in Cambria County, PA., George married the former Magdalena Fye, (1771-1853) of Cambria Co…(No records of Magdalena parents)

Through the marriage of George and Magdalena, ten children were born; Jacob (1796-____), Henry (1798-1877), Conrad (1800-1887), Elizabeth (1802-1845), David (1803-1877), Mary Magdalena (1807-1879), Daniel (1809-1893), Barbra (1811-1886), Samuel (1813-1892, and Catherine (____-____)

On Nov. 23, 1844, in Elton, PA., after a short illness, George passes away, in his home, surrounded by his family.

George was laid to rest in Snavely Cemetery, Elton, PA.
