Charles was enumerated for the federal census on April 8, 1950. He was 9 years old at the time, and was living with parents Charles and Elvia, half-sister Jenny, and siblings Richard, Luther, Dorothy, and John, on Highway 21 South in Union Township, Washington County, Missouri. ^[2]

On December 12, 1963, Charles was married to Mildred Lawson in Hopewell, Missouri.
