Biography

Jenny (Evans) Gargus was a Missourian.

Jenny was born on July 24, 1938, in Berryman, Missouri, to Elvia Bergner. Her biological father is Gerome Evans, who was married at the time of his affair with Elvia. Jenny's birth name, then, was Evans, as seen on the 1940 census. The specifics of Gerome and Elvia's affair are unknown, but she knew in her lifetime that her mother's husband was not her real father, and had been told by other relatives that it was Gerome. A recent DNA test done by one of her living sons confirmed the relationship to the Evans family, and we were able to make contact with them and confirm the relationship.* ^{[1] [2][3]}

Jenny was enumerated for the federal census on April 27, 1940. She was 1 year old at this time, and was living with grandparents Leslie and Katie Bergner, aunt Frances Bergner, her mother's siblings Eddie, Carl, Clyde, Edward, and Franklin Bergner, mother Elvia, and a lodger, Daisy King, in Courtois Township, Crawford County, Missouri. ^[1]

Jenny was enumerated for the federal census on April 8, 1950. She was 11 years old at this time, and was living with step-father Charles King, mother Elvia, and half-siblings Charles, Richard, Luther, Dorothy, and John King, on Highway 21 South in Union Township, Washington County, Missouri. ^[2]

Jenny married Chester Gargus on March 16, 1955.*

Jenny died on March 13, 2015, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was buried in Reedville Cemetery in Franklin County, Missouri.* ^[4]
