FORD.—On the 30th March, at her residence, Northgate-street, Unley Park, Elizabeth, the beloved wife of William Edward Ford, of the York Hotel. Aged 59 years.
OBITUARY. DEATH OF MRS. W. E. FORD. Another old and respected colonist died on Friday, Mrs. W. E. Ford, at her private residence, Unley Park. A daughter of Mr. King, an old resident of Hindmarsh, Mrs. Ford arrived in the colony by the ship Moffat in 1838 (sic, 1839). She married Mr. F. Stacey, and for many years they kept the principal hotel at Clare, rearing a family of five sons and two daughters. Some time after her first husband's decease Mrs. Stacey married Mr. W. E. Ford, and some 16 or 17 years ago they came to Adelaide and took the York Hotel, which has made its name famous throughout the colonies. Mrs. Ford has not taken any active part in the business for a considerable time past, but in her retirement in private life had recently become a victim to diabetes. Only a week ago a sudden cold resulted in inflammation of the bowels, and although the aid of Dr. Martin and Dr. Verco was at once called in their efforts to save her were fruitless, and she succumbed to the malady shortly after S o'clock on Friday evening. The funeral will take place on Sunday at the Hindmarsh Cemetery, where her parents are buried.
