Biography

Jacob Kanarr was born on 31 Mar 1843 in Grapeville, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, United States, son of John Kanarr (1807–1879) and Anna Magdalene Bender (1811–1880).

Jacob had a brother, Moses Kanarr (1840–1917).

Jacob died on 9 May 1926 in Indiana, Indiana, Pennsylvania, United States, aged 83.[1] He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Jacob married Martha Jane (King) Kanarr (born on 2 Jul 1849 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States; daughter of Adam Franklin King Sr. and Elizabeth (Caldwell) King) in 1869 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Their known son was Simon Thomas Kanarr (1869–1945).

Obituary

Jacob Kanarr. Another Civil war veteran answered the last roll call Sunday morning, when Jacob Kanarr died at his home on East Philadelphia street, from complications incident to advanced age. The deceased, who was born in Westmoreland county March 31, 1843, spent almost his entire life in this county. Early in the fifties his parents located in Grant township and later the deceased resided in White township, where his active years were spent in farming. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having served as a member of Company F, 206th regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and members of the G.A.R. Post and the American Legion honored his memory with a military burial in Greenwood cemetery following the funeral services conducted in the Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. Dr. J. B. Baker. He was married in 1869 to Martha Jane King and his widow and these children survive: Smuel T. Kanarr, of White township; Mrs. Robert Helman, of Rayne township; Mrs. John Lydick, of Cherryhill township; Mrs. C. E. Henry, Mortimer, Hester, Mary and Ira Kanarr, of town. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Stebbins, of Prairie Depot, O., and two brothers, Aaron Kanarr of town and John Kanarr, of Flint, Mich.
