Biography

Adam Franklin King Sr. was born on 15 Feb 1819 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States, son of Henry King (1795–1844) and Catherine (Fisher) King (1793–1878).

His siblings were:

Adam died on 20 Sep 1899 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States, aged 80.[1] He was buried in East Union Presbyterian Cemetery, Taylorsville, Pennsylvania.

Adam married Elizabeth (Caldwell) King (born in 1820). Their known children were:

Obituary

Indiana Weekly Messenger, Indiana, PA, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1899; Adam King died at the home of his son-in-law, Jacob Kanarr, in Rayne township, September 20, 1899, aged 80 years and seven months. He was born in Armstrong county and came to this county 60 years ago and located in what is now Grant township. He married Elizabeth Caldwell, who died some 16 years ago. He was the father of seven children, three of whom survive: Mrs. N. C. McCurdy, of Bradford; Mrs. Jacob Kanarr, of Rayne township, and Mr. Adam F. King, of Grant township. He is survived by 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Deceased was a consistent member of the Lutheran church and a man highly respected for his honesty and integrity by all who knew him. Interment was made at Taylorsville Thursday, the services being conducted by Rev. John E. Kanaar. (Also known as E. Union Cemetery - located in Taylorsville, Green Twp., Indiana County, PA)

Research Notes

Indiana County Gazette, Indiana, PA, Wednesday, July 1, 1891; The Fire Record Three Houses Burned on Account of Bad Flues. Monday afternoon about 5 o'clock the dwelling house of Adam King of near Decker's Point caught fire from a defective flue. The house was burned to the ground, but nearly all its contents were saved. Loss, $500; insurance $300.

Indiana Progress, Indiana, PA, September 23, 1891;

Adam King, an aged and respected citizen of Grant township, made us a pleasant call on last Thursday. Mr. King was so unfortunate as to lose his dwelling house by fire. He had it insured in Thompson's agency, he was notified by Mr. Thompson to call and receive his money everything was adjusted satisfactorily.[sic]

Indiana Weekly Messenger, Indiana, PA, Oct. 6, 1899;

The will of the late Adam King, of Grant township, was filed October 2. He states that he has various claims throughout the county, among them a judgement for $1479, filed at the prothonotary's office. His properly, after all debts are paid, is disposed of as follows: One-fourth to Edward Kanarr and Mrs. Anna Smith, children of his deceased daughter, Catharine; one-fourth to his son Adam; one-fourth to his daughter, Martha Kanarr, and one-fourth to his daughter, Mame McCrae. John Riman is the executor. The will is dated January 14, 1895. It was witnessed by J. N. Evans and Jacob Burket.
