Biography

Mary was the daughter of Elizabeth Westwood and her first husband Mark Johnson. When her father passed her mother remarried Anthony Armistead.

Marriage (1)

Mary (Armistead) Tabb was married three times — first to Thomas Tabb, second to Matthew Wills, and third to Colonel Robert Armistead (his second wife).

Thomas Tabb (Thomas, Thomas, Humphrey) married Mary Armistead [sic: Johnson], daughter [sic: step daughter] of Anthony Armistead (son of Anthony Armistead and grandson of William Armistead, the emigrant.) about 1724/25. Note: Mary has been confused as her step father's daughter and it probably did not help matters when she married her step cousin Robert Armistead. Thomas Tabb passed away in about 1736. He left six children, according to his will (proved in 1736), according to the Bible and the will of the widow, Mary Armistead [sic: Johnson] — Tabb— Wills — Armistead (she was married three times)[1]

Will

Mary's Will was dated 09 Feb 1758 was apparently written in anticipation of her 3rd marriage.[3]

Probate

Her Will was probated on 03 Jun 1766.[4] In her will she mentions sons, John Tabb, Jr., and Thomas Tabb; daughters, Elizabeth King, Rachel Fiveash, Martha Latimer; grandson Thomas Tabb Wills (son of Lawrence Wills). She gives the silver spoons marked T. T. M. to her son, Thomas Tabb, and the silver porringer to her daughter, Elizabeth King, (marked A. A. E.) Of course, the first letters denote "Thomas and Mary Tabb," and the second, "Anthony and Elizabeth Armistead."
