Chad, 7th cousin Kevin here. I defer to your experience and expertise in the Southern Colonies/ Jamestown Team. Richard Caswell's mother, Unknown Smith-197683 is also known to be sister of Caswell's uncle, Wm Smith-75265. Should unknown Smith be added as sister to Wm Smith?

Hi Kevin! Thanks for reaching out. You are correct. I just initially hesitated to add them as siblings since I did not know the parents. I was fairly confident that I could uncover them, but wasn't successful at the time. :)

Hi Chad,

I posted a check-in message a couple of weeks ago about the US Black Heritage Project to ask you about your activity with the project, but haven’t heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project? If I don’t hear from you by next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things. You’re always welcome to re-join the project at any time.

Thanks, Emma MacBeath, USBH Project Co-Leader

Hello Chad!

I’m conducting the 6-month check in for the US Black Heritage Project. Because we are growing so fast, it’s not always possible for me to see what everyone’s working on.

I’d love to hear what you’ve been working on and if you are still happy being a part of the Heritage Exchange team. Members can change teams at any time.

Hello,

I am a descendant of Choctaw Bill. We believe he was a great Uncle or Grandfather.. My paternal line is Williams and our line ends at John Williams Sr, leader of the Choctaw Indians. I wonder if you know why their name was Williams? Did they adopt that surname? Any idea what the real surname might have been? I recently learned that I am related via DNA to two ancestors of Choctaw Bill. And that I tested as having 1% DNA of Plains and Eastern Woodlands Indians across 6 chromosomes. I don't understand how to link any of the DNA information. Am just really confused about it all. Could it be that if John Williams Sr (Cherwa Leader) adopted the last name Williams, that I am not really a Williams? And the reason for my mostly European Ancestry is because all the men married European women over the time period?

posted by Jerry Williams
Y-DNA is inherited from father to son directly, so if you have not taken at least a Y-DNA test (67, at least) I would suggest you do that. This will help a lot with the Williams line. The 1% DNA across six chromosomes is problematic. They could easily come from several different ancestors.. Best if you use GEDMatch and get some triangulated matches. William Walter Williams was born about 1748 in North Carolina. There are differing opinions on his parentage. He is variously listed as son of the following couples:

James Williams and Alice McRae John Williams IV and Anne Williams ( alleged Nottaway Cheraw leader) Stephen Williams and Elizabeth Lewis There is no conclusive proof on any of them, so the Y-DNA would be helpful for comparison. Frankly I adhere to the James Williams and Alice McRae view, based solely on the work cited in the source section.

Hello,

I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.

If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.

We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.

If we don't hear back from you we will assume that you no longer wish to participate in the project and if so, you could rejoin at any time as is convenient for you.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi Chad,

Since you indicated that you like to write biographies will you write some biographies on some of the proven Jamestown profiles?. There are some in the table which need biographies written for Jamestown. on this page: Jamestown, Virginia Colony . I am sorry I do not have a decent list other than all the proven people, but I trust you will find the profiles which need Better biographies and some with virtually no biography.

Thanks,

Hi Chad,

We're sad to inform you that the Black Sheep Project is being dissolved. All BSP's subprojects will be moved in pieces under the Notables Project as categories and perhaps as Teams, depending on interest. Witch Trials will become a subproject of Notables.

Your BSP project member badge will soon be removed. If you'd like to join the Notables project, please let one of us know and we'll get you a Notables badge.

Please email either of us if you have any questions and if you'd like to join the Notables project.

Please have a look at the new project pages, and let me know whether you would like to remain in the project and, if so, which team(s) you would like to be in.
