Biography

Lucinda was born in 1812 in Kentucky to Thomas and Catherine Phillips Hutcheson (the surname is spelled variously in different places)^[1]. She married William J Camp on September 21, 1837, in Springfield, Illinois^[2][3][4]. She died on January 29, 1875, in Springfield, Illinois, at the age of 63, and was buried there^[5].

Research Notes

Find A Grave #23824436 has an incorrect birth year in the memorial section, but the correct year is reflected in an obituary quote in the bio, "Obituary from IL State Register, Springfield, I, 1-30-1875: 'Mrs. Lucy Camp died yesterday, aged about sixty-two years. She will be buried tomorrow.'"

That the birth year of 1812 is accurrate, despite it being shown variously as 1813 or 1814 in the census^[3][4][6], is confirmed in Lucy's own stitchery in her sampler done at age 17^[1].
