Mrs. Grace Praed, mother of the late mayor of Eaglehawk, Mr. John Praed, passed away at a late hour on Thursday, 25th ult. The deceased lady was a native of Marazion, Cornwall, and 71 years of age. Mrs Grace Praed, mother of the late Mayor of Eaglehawk, passed away at a late hour on Thursday night, the cause of death being bronchial pneumonia. The deceased lady, who was a native of Marazion, Cornwall, and 71 years of age, had been indisposed for some time and it is thought that her son's untimely death accelerated her end. She had resided in Victoria for 37 years and was the mother of 11 children, five of whom are dead, six - four sons and two daughters - living. the funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Eaglehawk Cemetery.

Notes from Emigration event: On board the "Stonehouse" Notes from Religion event: Methodist On the night of the 1851 census, the 14-year-old Grace was living with her parents and siblings in North St, Marazion. In April 1871, Grace was 34 years old and married to Edward Praed. They and their family of 5 children were living at 4 Oats's Road, Marazion. Emigrated with her husband and family to Australia on board the "Stonehouse", which arrived in Melbourne Dec 1871 after a voyage of about two months from Plymouth.Her husband's pet name for his wife was "Gracey Toosey". Her obituary, from The Bendigo Advertiser of 25/6/08, says......."Mrs Grace Praed, mother of the late Mayor of Eaglehawk, passed away at a late hour on Thursday night, the cause of death being bronchial pneumonia . The deceased lady, a native of Marazion, Cornwall, and 71 years of age, had been indisposed for some time, and it is thought that her son's untimely death accelarated her end.
