Fredrick Hassler was born in 1833 in Baden, Germany. He married Christina Zimmermann and had at least two children with her before she passed away in 1867. He then married Jacobina Zimmermann, who bore him at least five children.

Fredrick was listed as a weaver according to records from Graben.

In 1879, Fredrick, Jacobina, and seven of his children immigrated to the US aboard the ship S.S. Zeeland, departing from the port in Antwerp, and arriving in New York City. The Hasslers originally settled in Dakota County, Minnesota, and in time all the Hassler children spread out across Minnesota and the western US, forming families of their own.

Fredrick died 11 years after arriving in America and is buried in Rice County.
