Communication Preferences:
I am interested in communicating with
cousins and anyone else with an interest in genealogy.
Here is my family tree.
Searching for my roots since 1987. Wikitree member since 2018.
She has deep roots in Denmark. It's tough to pinpoint a surname since for many years, children had a surname made from their father's first name, but here they are:
My mother never knew her father. She was always told he was someone that he wasn't. I was able to figure out who he was with DNA and that my mom has quite a few half siblings. We decided it was best not to change the life as they know it unless they find me on their own. I am content figuring out who I'd been looking at all these years in my mother's face and of course in mine. My mom always thought that she looked like her mother. There are certain details, but for the most part, I didn't see my grandmother much in my mother's face. She looks so much like her father.
Maternal Grandmother's Side
Her Paternal Side
This side is Nova Scotian made up of Loyalists, Acadians, and Dutch. There is a long list of surnames but my main surnames that I am researching right now are:
This side is colonial New England and the majority have a long history in Martha's Vineyard, Massachussetts. She has Mayflower and Wampanoag roots the the latter has recently been disputed. My great grandmother is also a descendant of Charlemagne. Her father is unknown, often misatributed to her step father with Azorian heritage but there is not genetic link to this family. It does appear that her biological father was of Azorian ethnicity. The surname list is very long so my surnames of intereste at the moment are:
First-hand information. Entered by Sharon Gulick at registration.

While I was searching the Thommen's in WikiTree I found your ancestors Johannes Kohler (Kohler-1879) & Anna Barbara Thommen (Thommen-52).
By checking their marriage I found they married in Oberburg (near Burgdorf) in Bern, Switzerland on 16 October 1835.
Johannes Kohler was from Wynau, Bern, Switzerland and Anna Barbara was not named Thommen but Tomi, and she came from Oberburg (where she married)
Anna Barbara Tomi was born 21 and baptised 30 January 1814 in Oberburg, daughter of Hans Ulrich Tomi & Elisabeth Uhlmann.
Johannes Kohler was born 16 and baptised 29 May 1813 in Wynau, son of Hans Jakob Kohler & Anna Maria Hunziker
btw: Anna Barbara Thommen, born 20 Jan 1819 in Bubendorf married 27 September 1844 in Niederbipp, Bern, Switzerland with Johannes Kellerhals (which is registered in the churchbooks of Bubendorf and Niederbipp)
Ok, thanks for letting me know! I will look at it when I can. I have had autoimmune issues affecting my vision so I have only been able to work on a little at a time. I know my Danish side needs more focus than I was able to do since I don't speak Danish so have to translate and I wasn't able to see very well. It's not a good mix. Her last name is spelled differently in various records so it was confusing enough as it was. Been improving so hopefully soon!
Sorry to here you have problems with your eyes. I wish you all the best to recover as far as possible. I myself have makula problems, so I can nearly only read digital when I can make the writing as large as useful.
But now back to genealogy. My message was about your Swiss ancestry, the Kohler line.
