Biography

Peter Gilliam born before 1733 has traditionally been posited as a son of William Gilliam and Mary Jarrett. He married Ann Heard and came to reside in Wilkes Co., GA where he was dead by 15 Jul 1794 when Jesse Heard was appointed administrator of his estate.

Since Peter was acting as the Overseer for John Hudson as early as 1754 in Albemarle (John Hudson's accounts include those for Thomas and Henry Heard), it does not appear William and Mary Gilliam's son would be of age in 1754, William Gilliam, Sr., being born in 1720 and Mary Jarratt Gilliam in 1724. Also, William Gilliam, Jr's Estate was distributed to his siblings or their heirs, no such distribution was made to Peter or his heirs.

A Peter Gilliam is mentioned in the Will of Elizabeth Gilliam of Albemarle as well as Elizabeth's deceased brother Charles. It appears that Peter Gilliam who married Ann Heard is Elizabeth's brother, Peter, and that Peter and Ann named their first born, Charles, after Elizabeth's and Peter's deceased brother, Charles.

These Gilliams appear to be related to the Peter Gilliam of Hanover who lived in St. Paul's Parish Hanover and died about 1772.

Gillum-143 and Gilliam-595 appear to represent the same person because: Peter is the brother of John Gillum per the Will of their sister Elizabeth Gillum. John and Peter together witness a deed for the Hudsons, for whom Peter was an overseer.

Moving Sarah Gilliam Morrow to Gilliam-595 because she's certainly the daughter of Peter m. Ann Heard with the estate record on that file. But noting because it's possible these two records are the same man and/or need to be properly untangled.
