Biography

Georgiana "Georgie" Fisher was born in April 12,1853 in Liverpool, Fulton County, Illinois, her father, Jacob Fisher, was a 29 year old River Boat Pilot, and her mother, Charlotte, was 33. Charlotte was previously married to Patrick H. Hart, who died shortly after their son Henry Luke Hart was born on 23 Nov 1838 Illinois.

Charlotte married Jacob Fisher in Mobile Alabama in 1843 and they moved back to Illinois in approx. 1850. They had three children. There son, John Aubrey Fisher was born 6 Mar 1844 in Alabama and died 15 May 1922, Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona. Roger, who died a young man, pre-1880. And Georgiana, born 1853. Both Roger and Georgiana were born in Liverpool, IL.

After her father Jacob's death in abt. 1879, Georgiana was her mother's caregiver and lived with her until she married Carroll Rudolphus Maxwell on November 16, 1882, in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. After her mother's death in 1897, The property her mother had lived on in Liverpool township, Canton, IL. was sold.

Georgiana and her family moved to Santa Ana, CA in 1900. Four years later, they relocated to Highland Park, Los Angeles CA. After the death of her husband's mother, Lydia Gray (Loper) Maxwell, and her husband's diagnosis of rectal cancer in 1917, Carroll's sister, Effie Almeda Maxwell, came to live with them in California and took care of Carrol until his death in 1925. Effie stayed on as companion, housekeeper and caregiver for Georgie until her death in 1935.

Georgiana was a very religious person and attended the Methodist/Episcopalian Church in Garvanza, Highland Park. She was active in it's social affairs until her health no longer allowed for it. She was described as a fairly nervous and fragile personality.

Georgie, as she was called, suffered from chronic illness, and was often referred to as "an invalid" in correspondence between acquaintances of the family. Her health was referenced in an article dated Feb. 1, 1919 regarding her son, E.C. Maxwell, as reported by her sister-in-law, Mrs. H.L. Hart. Georgiana died on November 6, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 82 of liver cancer.
