John Finney is referred to as "John the Pilgrim" in this source.[1]
"John Finney, his brother Robert, and two sisters, Katherine and Anne first appeared in Plymouth Colony in the 1630's, along with their aged mother whose name is unknown.[2] His mother was referred to only as "Mother Finney", and she died Apr 22, 1650 at Plymouth, older than 80 years of age.[3]
John lived in Plymouth and Barnstable. He was married three times. It is likely they were married before arrival in New England.[2] John Phiny married Chistianna Patten 22 November 1636[4] in Lenton, Nottinghamshire [5] His first wife, Christian, died in Plymouth on September 9, 1649.
John married second Abigail (Bishop) Coggin, widow of Henry. They married July 9, 1650 at Barnstable, Massachusetts.[6][1][7]
John married third Elizabeth Bayley (sic) June 26, 1654, at Barnstable.[8]
John's death and probate information has not been found. The last mention of him was a deed he signed Feb 2, 1682/3 in which he disposed of his house and land in Bristol to son, Jonathan.[2]
The Finney family was most likely from the parish of Lenton, Nottinghamshire, where a family matching their description in all aspects is found.[2]
According to NEHGR 148:323: he was living at Bristol, MA (now in RI) as late as 7 Feb 1682/3, when he deeded his house and lands there to his son Jonathan (see Bristol Co. Deeds, 4:25).

(2) I am removing from the profile two items from the section "Notes" (will rename Research Notes), Both passages seem lengthy extractions referenced as (a) "From: Finney - Phinney Families in America DESCENDANTS OF JOHN FINNEY OF PLYMOUTH AND BARNSTABLE, MASS., AND BRISTOL, R. Phinney-159 and Finney-136 appear to represent the same person because: I created Phinney-159 as the father of Hannah (Phinney / Finney) Morton (Phinney-344) with very little information. I now see that Finney-136 is the correct father, so Phinney-159 should go away.
Because the daughter Margaret Finney is conflated (she has a marriage and children far too young, with no quality sources), I propose we create another Margaret Finney as the daughter of John and Christian, and remove the parents from Finney-134 (disputed origins section already in place on Finney-134 explaining disputed parentage). The Margaret Finney, daughter is the one with the birth/baptism in 1637.
(I have changed the birthdate of the one who married Taylor to about 1630, aligned with a 1649 marriage and 3 immediate children. The profile as originally created was conflated with a birth/baptism date of 1637 (synonymous with John and Christian's daughter), along with a death in Maryland in 1675 (synonymous with Margaret who married Taylor).
The same article in NEHGR: 148: shows John and Christian Patten having daughter Margaret bapt. in England , no further record (as noted below) and one son John (not 2 sons).
The New England Historical and Genealogical Register 148:325 has Margaret as their child, with a baptism date of July 20, 1637. It appears that she is not the Margaret who married John Taylor, based on her baptism date.
:NOTE: There is no reference on any of the BOOKS to John & wife Christiana (Christian) having a daughter, only 2 sons. [citation needed] Margaret Finney-134
It is very plausible that John and his siblings emigrated aboard the Diligent in 1938. Katherine (Finney) Fallowell's son married Martha Beal and Robert Finney married Phebe Ripley. Both the Beals and the Ripleys were from Norfolk, emigrated aboard the Diligent, and settled in Hingham, Mass. The most likely way that the Finneys would have become close to the Beals and the Ripleys is if they were all aboard the Diligent.
I removed Protesia Holdich from the "mother" slot on this profile. That's a case of mistaken identity. She married John Pinney, not Robert Finney, and she was in Devon, England, in 1639 (not in Massachusetts).
