Dorothea (Fink) Hafner migrated from Grossbottwar, Baden-Württemberg, Germany to Australia.
Dorothea was born in 1832 in Grossbottwar, near Stuttgart, Germany, daughter of Gottfried Jakob and Maria Augusta Fink (formerly Traub). She was one of 18 (yes, 18!) children born to her parents. 7 children died in infancy or childhood.
Dorothea married Georg Häfner, a farmer, in 1835 in the Evangelisch (Protestant) church in Grossbottwar.
[1]
Georg and Dorothea had 3 of what would be their 9 children in Grossbottwar, before emigrating. They left Hamburg on the ship Grasbrook, headed for Moreton Bay (Queensland), Australia, on 1st June, 1861. The records indicate that Georg's occupation was as a farmer (Landmann).
[2]
In 1874, Dorothy and George lived at Racecourse, Breakfast creek, Brisbane.
[3]
In 1894 and 1896, Dorothea's husband George was a farmer in Hemmant.
[4]
Georg passed away in 1896, aged 74, from a head injury, 3 days after a fall from the step of his cart at Lytton Rd Hemmant, Brisbane.
After George's death, Dorothea lived at King St Wynnum for the remainder of her life. She died on 7 January 1927. She is buried in Hemmant Cemetery and her gravestone can be viewed here.
