Georg was born in 1823 and baptised in Löchgau (north of Stuttgart, Germany), son of Michael Häfner, farmer, and his wife Susanna Stäbler.

He married Dorothea Maria Fink in 1835 in the Evangelisch (Protestant) church in Grossbottwar, in the same area of Germany.

Georg and Dorothea had 3 of what would be their 9 children in Grossbottwar, before emigrating. They left Hamburg on the ship Grasbrook, headed for Moreton Bay (Queensland), Australia, on 1st June, 1861. The records indicate that Georg's occupation was as a farmer (Landmann).

In 1874, George was a squatter at Racecourse, Breakfast creek, Brisbane.

In 1894 and 1896, George was a farmer in Hemmant.

Georg passed away in 1896, aged 74, from a head injury, 3 days after a fall from the step of his cart at Lytton Rd Hemmant, Brisbane. He is buried in Hemmant Cemetery and his gravestone can be viewed here.
