Biography

Neil was born about 1755 in Scotland to unknown parents. He emigrated to Halifax County, Nova Scotia sometime between 1762 and 1787,[1] and settled in Herring Cove.

It's uncertain if he married his wife Margaret (maiden name unknown) in Scotland or Nova Scotia. They had 8 known sons baptised at Mather's Church (aka the Protestant Dissenting Church, later known as St. Matthew's Presbyterian) in Halifax:[2]

Neil was listed as the head of household living in Herring Cove on the 1792[3] and 1793 poll tax lists,[4] listed as a labourer and a planter.

Neil passed away in 1819, and was buried February 18th 1819 at St. Paul's Church of England Cemetery in Halifax.[5]
