"Henry was one of 10 children of William and Jane Stapleton Crutchfield who had moved to Caroline County, Virginia, from Middlesex County. Family history says he was born around 1743. He was orphaned young, but there is a discrepancy as to the exact date of his father's death.[1]
'Henry Crutchfield admitted to choose his guardian; chose Daniel Isbell, who acknowlded (sic) bond. Last will and testament of William Crutchfield presented in Court by Rachel Crutchfield, executrix. Henry Crutchfield binds himself by indenture to James Beadles.' [2]
