Research Notes

There is no record of a death in the parish register for St. Antoine-de-Tilly on this date, the last entry being December 15, 1767. There is no record of this death in the following pages of the register also. No mention in the PRDH of this death on this date.

The Dictionnaire généalogique des familles canadiennes by Cyprien Tanguay has this date so I believe this where the information came from but it appears it is a typo error as I have found the death date to be December 18, 1766. This source only mentions one child named Jacques Croteau.

The birth date displayed as of May 2023 [abt. 1686] matches the estimate by Tanguay [Vol. 3, p. 205] and is probably based on the reported age of 80 years at death in 1766. PRDH gives a birth year estimate of 1690. Jetté [p. 294] estimated a birth year between 1688 and 1691. [Simeon Breault [Breault-330]]

Croteau-10 and Croteau-27 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same parents; the birth date is estimated (no baptism known) which explains the 4 year difference; and the correct death date is Dec 18, 1766.

Croteau-27 and Croteau-10 appear to represent the same person because: seems strange that these were never rechecked and merged.....i think the dob should be researched and debated, agreed upon and so on, the date of death is exactly a day short of year=has to be a typo, somewhere along the line
