Biography

Aaron was a Friend (Quaker)
Cheshire (historic flag)
Aaron Coppock was born in Mobberly, Cheshire, England.

Aaron Coppock's date of birth is frequently seen as 25 Oct 1662 in Cheshire. This date of birth appears to originate from the Nottingham Monthly Meeting published 1787 by the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and is undocumented, using the phrase "it appears he was born..." and gives his age at death as 63.[1][2] A baptism for an Aaron Coppock, son of John, is found in Mobberly parish (Cheshire) records dated 6 Jan 1666.[3][4] While children were frequently baptized some time after birth in this period a gap of nearly four years between birth and baptism would be highly unusual and unlikely. James Bowden in his History of the Society of Friends[5] states he was born in 1662 and died at age 67 in 1725. However, that date of death and age places his birth in 1658. It is probable Bowden's source for the year of birth was the same Nottingham "it appears" entry found in the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting publication of 1787. Likewise, there are issues with most other references to his date of birth which are currently unresolved.

If the baptismal record of 1666 is not his, and there is no definitive proof that it is, then the parents attached to this profile are incorrect. They are currently uncertain. A date of birth, not baptism, is also seen as 25 Dec 1666 but is also without any documentation or citation.

All accounts of Aaron's life state he was not born into a Quaker family but that he converted at a young age. As a Quaker record of his marriage to Mary Orrell has not yet been found it is possible the conversion was after his marriage and prior to the birth of daughter Sarah whose birth is recorded in Quaker minutes.

Marriage to Mary Orrell and Documented Children

A marriage document for Aaron Coppock and Mary Orrell has not been found in conformist or Quaker records. The frequently seen year of marriage 1688 is not presently documented and comes from an early undocumented Mormon source.[6]

Sarah b 12 Jul 1690[7]
Martha b 3 Nov 1693[7]
Aaron b 2 Mar 1697[7]
Mary b 11 May 1699[7]

Undocumented Children with Mary Orrell

It is more than likely that Aaron and Mary had children in addition to the above however the following and others with Mary attached above to this profile are absent any primary source documentation.

Child: Baby Coppock
Child: Ann Coppock

Arrival in the Colonies

Aaron's arrival in the Colonies is not known with precision. References to his arrival in 1690 in various indexes are erroneous as the birth of daughter Mary is recorded in Cheshire in May 1699 (see above). His arrival in the Colonies would thus appear to be sometime after 1700 and Alvin Anderson states that his removal certificate from Pownall Fee, Cheshire is dated 23 May 1701 which indicates he immigrated to Pennsylvania after this date.[8]

Marriage to Miriam Short and Documented Children

Aaron married second Miriam Short on 30 Nov 1704 at Nottingham.[9]

Sarah b abt 1704 (named in her father's will[10]
Miriam b abt 1706 (named in her father's will[10])
Lydia b abt 1707 (named in her father's will[10])
John b abt 1709[11]

Aaron moved to East Nottingham about 1704 and was a minister for approximately the last seven years of his life.

Misc References

Aaron Coppock was born in the year 1662, and united with Friends but a young man, and soon after he removed to Pennsylvania. For some years he was an elder in Nottingham Monthly Meeting, but during the latter period of his life occupied the station of minister, in which he manifested a deep concern that his friends might live a life of self-denial, watchfulness and prayer. He died in 1725, at the age of sixty-seven, in a sure hope of an entrance into everlasting life.[5]

As a result of multiple mergers the children of Aaron have become jumbled and duplicated. According to the Ancestry and Descendants of Aaron and Amy (Cobbs) Coppock Aaron had 5 children Sarah, Martha, Aaron, Aaron 2, and Mary with first wife Mary. He had 3 additional children, Miriam, Lydia, and John with his second wife Miriam. This totals 8 children and not 13.

I’ve been working to help merge duplicate profiles for his daughters Miriam and Sarah. Can you please help in anyway to help make sure all the children’s profiles reflect the correct parents? And to help with any propose and then approve mergers if you are the manager? Thanks.

Coppock-615 and Coppock-177 appear to represent the same person because: same name, exact same spouse, same parents, similar birth year, same birth location, same death date/location, Miriam child is same on both profiles. Please merge.

For your info., the following message appears from Wikitree when you try to save ... Warning: Check the data.

A birth date (Coppock-177 born 25 Oct 1662) should not be within eight months of a sibling's birth date (Coppock-200 born 30 Nov 1662) unless they are twins born within a day of each other.

Coppock-493 and Coppock-177 appear to represent the same person because: Hello Cheryl, I believe Aaron's correct date of birth is shown in Coppock-177 and is documented by Quaker Records.

Please merge. And thanks!
