Biography
Bertha Lizzie Coles, daughter of Benjamin Lippincott Coles and Mary Lizzie Mills, was born about December 1881 in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States. She was baptized on 25 June 1882 at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Lafayette.[1] She was enumerated with her parents and siblings during the 1900 census in St. Martin Parish.[2] Bertha completed her education to the fifth grade level.[3]
She married Henry Jasper Killmer on 10 November 1910 in Jefferson County, Texas.[4]
Bertha and Henry and their children were enumerated in Crowley, Acadia Parish, during the 1920 census, living in a house on Avenue X. They owned their home free and clear of any mortgage.[5] In 1930, they lived in their home at 1023 Avenue F, which was valued at $2,000.[6] By 1935, their home was at 927 Avenue F, where they were still living during the 1940 census. It was valued at $4,000. Henry was a retired rice farmer, and was receiving other income.[3]
Bertha died at age 58 on 22 May 1940 in Acadia Parish,[7][8] and was buried at South Crowley Cemetery.[9]
