Eliza (Clay) Diss was a resident of Buffalo, New York.
Eliza (Clay) Diss was an Illinoisan.
Eliza was born in 1828 and baptised on 7 Sep 1828 in Essex, England. She passed away on 14 Feb 1879 in Kinmundy, Marion, Illinois.
She was the daughter of Stephen Clay and Susannah Clay.
Eliza married Frederick (Fred) Diss (exact date unknown, she was still going by the name of Eliza Clay when she immigrated to New York in 1852, by 1860's census, she was married). The Diss family started their family in New York and according to Fred's obit, he had been in Illinois almost 30 years (early-mid 1860's). According to their son Charles's obit, they came to Farina Illinois when he was 6 weeks old (about 11 Feb 1861). Eliza and Frederick had 6 known children, 3 boys and 3 girls. There is another son mentioned on the 1870 census (Alfred), no other sources (he is also not buried with the family).
On Ancestry, there is another son, Albert Alfred Diss but the mortality death date is in Sep 1869 in New York and is on the 1870 Mortality census. By this time, the Diss Family were already in Illinois. I don't believe this is the son of Eliza & Frederick. Since he was born & died before the federal census, the only record I found was the mortality census and it does not list the parents Diss-96 22:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
On the 1870 census, there is another Alfred that was born in Illinois but there are no additional records/sources Diss-96 22:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
On the 1870 census, it shows Frederick and Eliza are from Prussia but I believe that was a carryover from the previous family, all indications are they were both from England Diss-96 22:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
On the immigration records, it indicates Eliza's age as 29 but it looks like it was transcribed incorrectly and should be 24 Diss-96 22:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
FaG memorial shows 1827 as year of birth and the stone is barely readable Diss-96 22:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
