Biography

Caterina Castro is born and baptized Catharinam on 18 December 1860. She is the daughter of Gaetano Castro and Mattea Vaccaro. Her godparents are Biagio Birtone and Vincenza, his sister. Caterina is the youngest of seven children, named after her paternal aunt.

Her father, Gaetano, dies at 75 years of age on 17 July 1884.

Her mother, Mattea, dies at age 78 on 19 January 1895.

Her oldest brother, Giuseppe, dies at age 52 on 23 May 1897. His wife survives him.

Caterina marries for the first time on 15 January 1898, to Mariano Colletto. Her parents have both died by this time.
