Antonino Cascio is born in Corleone on 21 December 1870 and baptized the next day as Antoninum. His parents are Giuseppe Cascio and Seraphina Vitale, and his godfather is Calogero Grizzaffi.[1]
Antonino is identified in civil records as a a pastajuolo by occupation (probably "pasta maker"): in the records of his son's birth, in his marriage to Anna, and again when he testifies to the death of Vincenzo Giuseppe Alfonzo Milliano, a 62 year old "Negozianti di tessuti," or dealer in drapery.
The marriage record of Antonino Cascio and Anna Ragusa begins with the dispensation by the archdiocese, dated 21 October. Antonino, son of Giuseppe Cascio and the late Serafina Vitali, marries Anna Ragusa, daughter of the late Gaetano Ragusa and the living Antonina Provenzano, on 27 October 1894.
According to his son's civil birth record, Antonino at first he did not claim his son, Giuseppe, born 7 November 1894, but by January, he had legitimized his son by marrying Anna in the civil record.
Anna and Antonino have another child, a daughter named Maria Serafina, in 1896.
In 1898, Anna, Antonino, and Maria immigrate to the United States. Arriving 21 February 1898 on the S.S. Scindia (or Scandia), which sailed from Palermo 27 January 1898, these three passengers are listed together, and are the only ones from Corleone:
Their destination: Marianna Provenzano (looks more like Trovenzano), 1576 Avenue between 80th and 81st St, New York.
Open issue: Though the names match, and Antonino's age is right, Anna, born around 1876 per her marriage record, should be 22 in 1898, not 25. Their son Giuseppe does not travel with them. Maria, who travels with them, may be Maria Serafina, or that child may have died and this one born the next year.
Antonio Cascio, age 35 (b. 1870), a grocer, his wife Anna, 30 (b. 1875), and their children Joseph, 10 (b. 1895), Fannie, 8 (b. 1897), Lena, 7 (b. 1898), Tomaso, 6 (b. 1899), Rosalia, 4 (b. 1901), Salvator, 2 (b. 1903), and Maria, an infant (b. 1905), appear in the 1905 state census of New York for Manhattan, taken on 1 June. The three older children are in school. The two older children and their parents were born in Italy, and the younger children were born in the US.[2]
Anna dies 2 August 1912 in New York.
Their son, Giuseppe, is murdered in New York on 25 December 1924.
Antonino dies February 1951.
