Biography

Carmelo Cascio is a Corleone native resident, born around 1767, based on his reported age at death, and is six years younger (b. 1773), based on his age in 1807. He is the son of Onofrio Castro and Francesca Cilebba, named after his paternal grandfather.

Carmelo marries Anna Cataudo on 26 January 1794. His father is living, and his mother has died by this time.

Carmelo and Anna have at least eight children together: Francesco (1794), Teodoro (1796), Bernardo (1799), Gaspare (1802), Caterina (1805), Giuseppa (1807), Biagia (1810), and Rosa (1813). They also take in Cristoforo (1796), the son of unknown parents.

Francesco is born and baptized 20 November 1794, ten months after his parents marry, and is named after his paternal uncle. His godparents are Don Giuseppe and Donna Lucia Falconeri, a married couple.

Teodoro is born and baptized 8 November 1796. His godparents are Bernardo and Bernarda Gennaro, a married couple.

On the same day as his son, Teodoro, is born, Carmelo Castro stands with Arcangela Vinci, who is called his wife in this record (there is no record of a couple by these names), as godparents to a child born of unknown parents and baptized Cristopharus. He is taken in by the couple, in the Quartiero, in the home of Teodoro Lisotta and Bernardo Ligotino.

Bernardo is born 8 January 1799 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Simone and Maria la Sala, a married couple.

Gaspare is born and baptized 15 January 1802, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Matteo Pirrone and Lucia Collura, who are not married.

Bernardo dies at age six on 1 February 1805. This record calls him Bernardo Capra.

Caterina is born and baptized 19 July 1805, named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Maestro Giuseppe and Giacinta Valenti, a married couple.

In 1807, Carmelo, age 34 (b. 1773), and his wife, 29 (b. 1778), who is called Anna Maria in the stato delle anime, live with their children Francesco, Teodoro, Gaspare, and Caterina, on the strada grande di S. Elena, in Corleone. Cristoforo does not appear, indicating he has died by this time. One of their neighbors is the home of Francesca Grizzaffi, a widow.

Giuseppa is born and baptized on 13 October 1807. Her godparents are Don Carmelo Trapani and Maria Ficarrotta, the midwife.

Caterina is born around 1807, based on her reported age at death.

Biagia is born and baptized on 1 January 1810. Her godparents are Francesco and Lucia Cascio, a married couple.

Rosa is born and baptized 2 November 1813. Her godparents are Francesco Cuccia and Bernarda la Maritata, wife of Giuseppe.
