Biography

Biagia Cascio is born and baptized 13 March 1806. She is the daughter of Francesco Cascio and Maria Vintaloro. Her godparents are Andrea and Biagia Marino, a married couple.

The 1807 stato delle anime records Biagia, age one year (b. 1806), living with her parents and older siblings (and a 20 year old man of unknown relation) at the entrance to the strada di Russo.

Open Issue: According to the record of his death, Rosolino, who dies at age twelve, is born in 1825 to Biagia and Salvadore. They do not marry for another six years, which suggests Rosolino's death record is in error as to his mother's identity, and he is actually the son of Salvadore's first wife, Liboria Buccheri. Rosolino is named after his paternal grandfather.

Biagia marries Salvadore Verdina, a widower, on 13 February 1831. Biagia's parents are both still living.

Biagia and Salvatore live for some time in Palermo. They have at least three children: Francesco Paolo (1832), Giuseppe (1835), and Giuseppa (c. 1844). Their older children are born in Corleone, and Giuseppa is born in Palermo.

Francesco Paolo is born 22 January 1832 and baptized the next day. He is named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Filippo and Francesca Briganti, a married couple.

Giuseppe is born 21 February 1835 in his parents' home in strada S. Leonardo, Corleone. He is the son of Biagia Cascio, age 38 (b. 1796), and Salvadore Verdina, age 40 (b. 1795), villico (peasant). His birth is reported by the midwife, Salvatrice Gagliardo. Giuseppe is baptized the next day. His godparents are Don Giovanni and Maria Anna Pomara, brother and sister.

Rosolino dies at age 12 (b. 1825) on 28 July 1837, during the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe, a plague that sweeps Sicily and sparks a revolt against the Bourbons. See the Open Issue above, regarding Rosolino's mother.

Giuseppa's birth date is not yet known. According to the Church record of Giuseppa's marriage, she is born in Palermo.

Salvadore dies at age 54 (b. 1796) on 8 September 1850. Biagia survives him.

Francesco dies, reportedly at age 20 (b. 1834) on 13 June 1854. He is unmarried.

Giuseppa marries Leoluca Ridulfo in Corleone on 5 May 1864.

Giuseppe marries Emmanuela Cascio, his aunt, in 1867. Giuseppe and Emmanuela have at least two children together.

Biagia dies, reportedly at age 60 (she is 65) on 16 April 1871.

Giuseppe dies at age 60 (b. 1835) on 13 July 1895. This record calls his mother Biagia Cuccia. His wife, Emmanuela, survives him.
