Edward Milton Callin was born on 10 Jul 1875 in Plain City, Wood, Ohio. He enlisted in the army on 16 May 1899. He served in the brief Spanish-American War, and returned to Ohio when it ended; newspaper accounts suggest that he suffered from what we would now likely recognize as post-traumatic stress disorder. After he was arrested for public outbursts and substance abuse in Bowling Green and Hamilton, he was hospitalized in Cincinnati. He died in Jul 1902 at the age of 27 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, and was buried in the Old Weston Cemetery in Weston, Wood County, with his mother.
