Salvatrice Bonanno, the daughter of Leoluca Bonanno, borgese, and Rosa Badami, is born on 14 December 1864 in her parents' home on via San Giovan Battista in Corleone.[1]

Salvatrice marries twice, first to Pietro Tufanio, son of Epifanio Tufanio and Marianna Licciardi, on 27 May 1886 in Corleone.[2]

Salvatrice, also called Anna, remarries to Salvatore "Sam" Streva, her first cousin, and a convicted extortionist associated with Jack Dragna. Salvatrice Bonanno, age 34 (b. 1867), and Sam Streva, age 26, both natives of Italy and residents of Los Angeles, marry in 1901.[3][4]

Pietro Tufanio is reportedly a widower in 1909, when he remarries in Manhattan.

Salvatore and Anna have two sons, Vincent/Vince T. (1902) and John J. (1907).

His brother Francesco, age 40, marries in NYC early in 1901.

In a 1902 city directory for Los Angeles, CA, there is a listing for Salvatore Streva, a barber, living at 568 S San Pedro and doing business at the same address.[5] This address is in South Central Los Angeles.

Vince T. is born 1 August 1902 in California.[6]

John J. is born 8 June 1907, also in California.[7]

In the 1910 federal census, Salvatore Streva, 46 (b. 1863), heads a household at 538 Eleventh St., Los Angeles (formerly San Pedro) with his wife of 22 years (m. 1888), Anna B., 45 (b. 1864), who both immigrated in 1901. She has had four children, two of them still living. They are in the census: Vincent S., 8 (b. 1902), and John, 2 years and six months (b. Nov 1907). Also living with them are three roomers, Pascal Carecse (Caruso?), 45 (b. 1864), John Carecse, 22 (b. 1888), both single, and Raphael Siciliano, 31 (b. 1879), who has been married for five years. The children were born in California and the adults in Italy. Pascal immigrated in 1905, and John and Raphael in 1909. Salvatore is employed as a merchant in a fruit store. The roomers are fisherman at sea.[8] The note about this address being “formerly San Pedro” comes right from the 1910 census form. The address today maps to Hermosa Beach, across town from San Pedro.

Salvatrice's husband, Salvatore Streva is first accused of extorting Dominico Lauricella in 1913. Cascio-10 20:05, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

In the 1913 Los Angeles city directory, Salvadora Streva appears as a grocer at 208 W. 4th St., and residing at 538 11th.[9]

In August 1913, Salvatrice, Orsola Campanella, and Henrietta Barca, all wives of San Pedro winery owners, are arrested in raids on their husbands' establishments and charged with running blind pigs: selling wine not their own produce, without a license. Complaints from licensed saloon owners in San Pedro led to the raids.[10] Since the warrants were in their husbands' names, but the arrestees were not named, the seized "wet goods" were returned to the winery owners instead of being destroyed.[11]

In the 1914 city directory for San Pedro and Wilmington, California, Salvadora Streva, a grocer at 633 S. Palos Verdes, residing at 538 11th. St.[12]

In the 1913 and 1914 city directories, Salvadora is the only Streva listed.

In 1915, "Jack Rizzotto" (Jack Dragna), Salvatore Streva, and Ben Streva (Ben Rizzotto, Jack's second cousin and future brother-in-law) are arrested for extortion of a wealthy rancher, Dominico Lauricella, with death threats. The three are tried in January 1916.[13][14]

Salvatore is found guilty of extortion and sentenced to San Quentin. Salvatore is received at San Quentin Prison on 28 March 1917. He is from Italy, 54 years old (b. 1863), a barber, 5 ft 6 7/8 ins, and weighing 221 pounds with a dark complexion, brown eyes, and black hair.[15]

He appears to be out pending trial until February 1917. The trial concludes in early March. He is sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

That October, a neighbor is accidentally shot in Mrs. S. Streva's home at 448 11th St when Mrs. Streva unfurls a quilt to show her. A pistol falls to the floor and discharges. The neighbor, Mrs. D. H. Edinger of 448 1/2 11th St., dies two days later.[16][17]

Salvatore is paroled on 28 May 1918, and discharged while on parole, on 28 July 1919.[18]

Sam and his sons John and Vincent are all listed, in the 1920 city directory for San Pedro, CA, although John is just 12 years old:

John Streva, residing at 548 ½ W. 11th

Samuel Streva, a laborer residing at the same address

Vincent T Streva residing at the same address[19]

In the 1920 federal census of Los Angeles County, San Pedro District, taken 12 January, Sam Streva heads a household at 548 ½ 11th St. There is another family headed by the Austrian Vincent Elich, a fisherman, at the same address.

Sam Streva owns his home. He is 55 years old (b. 1864). He and his wife Annie, 53 (b. 1866), immigrated in 1891. They are alien residents. Their children at home are Vincent, 17 (b. 1902), and John, 12 (b. 1907), who were both born in CA. Sam is a laborer in a lumber yard and Vincent is a truck driver.[20]

In the 1923 San Pedro city directory,

Antonio Streva, bookkeeper for the National Baking Co., lives at 434 W 17th

Salvador (Annie) Streva, trucking, lives at 548 1/2 W 11th

Vincent Streva, driver, lives at 548 1/2 W 11th[21]

Mrs. Salvatrice Streva, resident of San Pedro for 23 years, dies 16 July 1925 in Glendale at age 60 (b. 1865). Wife of Salvatore Streva of 548 1/2 West 11th St. Streva family well known in San Pedro through their connection with the Pioneer Truck Company. Mrs. S. survived by husband, sons Vincent and John of San Pedro, sisters Katherine Marcese and Francis Giacomo, brothers Leonardo Bonano, Angelo Bonano and John Bonano, all of Los Angeles, and by Luke Bonano of Italy.[22][23]

Salvatore dies 23 January 1928 in Los Angeles. He is 64 (b. 1863).[24]

John J. Streva, age 22 (b. 1908), son of Sam Streva and Sarah Bonanno, marries Sarah Barbara Bivinetto, age 22 (b. 1908) on 23 February 1930 in Los Angeles, CA. John and Sarah marry in San Pedro by a Catholic priest. [25]

Vince dies 6 February 1964 in Los Angeles.[6] He is 61.

A public record that is a match for John's year of birth lives in Van Nuys, CA on 1 July 1970.[26]

On 2 February 1991, John lives in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, CA. A relative is Sarah Streva. (This is also his wife’s name as well as his mother’s.)[27]

John dies on 21 February 1989 in Sherman Oaks[28], Los Angeles.[7] He is 81. His obituary calls John a salesman. He is buried at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills[29]
