Biography

Vince T. Streva is born 1 August 1902 in California.[1] He is the son of Salvatore "Sam" Streva and Salvatrice "Anna" Bonanno, both natives of Corleone, Sicily, and residents of Los Angeles. Vincent is named after his paternal grandfather.

In the 1910 federal census, Salvatore Streva, 46 (b. 1863), heads a household at 538 Eleventh St., Los Angeles (formerly San Pedro) with his wife of 22 years (m. 1888), Anna B., 45 (b. 1864), who both immigrated in 1901. She has had four children, two of them still living. They are in the census: Vincent S., 8 (b. 1902), and John, 2 years and six months (b. Nov 1907). Also living with them are three roomers, Pascal Carecse (Centonze? Caruso?), 45 (b. 1864), John Carecse, 22 (b. 1888), both single, and Raphael Siciliano, 31 (b. 1879), who has been married for five years. The children were born in California and the adults in Italy. Pascal immigrated in 1905, and John and Raphael in 1909. Salvatore is employed as a merchant in a fruit store. The roomers are fisherman at sea.[2] The note about this address being “formerly San Pedro” comes right from the 1910 census form. The address today maps to Hermosa Beach, across town from San Pedro.

In the summer of 1911, Vincent is a guest at a four-year old neighbor's birthday party, at 530 11th St. in San Pedro.[3]

Vincent plays third base for the winning stars of the 16th St School in January 1913. The players are all under 13.[4]

Vincent Streva of 538 11th St. wins a local contest in September 1914.[5]

Sam and his sons John and Vincent are all listed, in the 1920 city directory for San Pedro, CA, although John is just 12 years old:

John Streva, residing at 548 ½ W. 11th

Samuel Streva, a laborer residing at the same address

Vincent T Streva residing at the same address[6]

In the 1920 federal census of Los Angeles County, San Pedro District, taken 12 January, Sam Streva heads a household at 548 ½ 11th St. There is another family headed by the Austrian Vincent Elich, a fisherman, at the same address.

Sam Streva owns his home. He is 55 years old (b. 1864). He and his wife Annie, 53 (b. 1866), immigrated in 1891. They are alien residents. Their children at home are Vincent, 17 (b. 1902), and John, 12 (b. 1907), who were both born in CA. Sam is a laborer in a lumber yard and Vincent is a truck driver.[7]

In the 1920 San Pedro city directory,

Vincent Thomas Streva marries Lillian Margaret Perrino, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Perrino, on 27 April 1924 in St. Paul’s Church, Los Angeles. The couple plan to reside at 1051 Alma St. after 15 May.[11]

Vincent's mother dies in July 1925.

The following month, Vincent and his wife are injured, though not seriously, in a car accident in Wilmington. Reportage includes their home address, 548 1/2 West 11th St.[12]

In September, Vincent's wife is a guest at party in the home of Mrs. L. Gruet, at 1530 West 11th St.[13][14]

In the 1926 San Pedro and Harbor City directory,
