Michelangelo Birtone is born and baptized 28 April 1857, the youngest of twelve children of Antonio Birtone and Vittoria Castro. His godparents are Gaetano Castro and Mattea Vaccaro, a married couple.[1]
Antonio dies at age 83 (b. 1800) on 23 May 1883.
Vittoria dies at age 79 (b. 1811) on 27 November 1890.
Michelangelo marries Gaetana Rao, daughter of the late Gaetano Rao and the living Anna Maria Panepinto, on 14 June 1891.[2]
Michaelangelo and Gaetana have at least three children: Vittoria (1892), Antonino (1895), and Michael (c. 1900). The records of their two older children's births both call Michaelangelo a borgese.
Vittoria is born in October 1892. They live at via San Giuseppe, 29.[3]
Antonio is born in September 1895. They live at via Birtone, 17.[4]
In the 1905 New York state census, taken 1 June, Michaelangelo Bertone, 39 (b. 1866), heads a household at 108th St. in NYC with his wife, Gaetana, 33 (b. 1872), and children Victoria, 12 (b. 1893), and Michael, 5 (b. 1900), all born in Italy. Michaelangelo is a laborer and Gaetana is a cigar maker.[5]
