Stephen was born in 1823 in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, the son of Stephen Edward Bent and Amia Tupper. (*) He inherited his father's farm and remained there until death. While the location, about nine miles from Annapolis, was originally known as Bentville it later became Tupperville. Stephen married three times and had nine children. His first wife Lucy Jane Willet died at age 22. There were two children from this union. Stephen's second wife was Mary Elizabeth Parker and they had seven children. After Mary Elizabeth died Stephen married Mrs. Emma (Bacon) Bent, widow of John Bent. Stephen passed away in April 1891 and was buried in the Round Hill Cemetery.
