Lucy Jane was born in 1835, the daughter of George Willet and Lucy Bent. For both her parents it was a second marriage and there were two surviving children from their first marriages in addition to the nine children George and Lucy had together, creating a large family group for Lucy Jane. Perhaps she hoped for the same large family when she married Stephen Edward Bent in 1855 but it was only her husband who would have the large family. Lucy Jane and Stephen had two children Herbert Willett, who survived and William Edward Willett who died in infancy in January 1858. Lucy Jane died in April that year at age 22. The cause of death comes from a problematic transcript of a newspaper report or the newspaper itself was in error. From the New Brunswick Courier May 1, 1858: "d. Round Hill, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, 17th inst., of consumption, Jane Bent w/o Edward Bent and d/o George Willett, age 2 and half years." Clearly they meant 22 and half, as no two-year-old has a husband. The cause of death is likely accurate. Her husband remarried and had seven more children with his second wife. Lucy Jane was buried in the Round Hill Cemetery in Annapolis.
