Salvatore Bellomo is born 25 April 1915 in the Bronx[1], in New York City, the son of Liborio Bellomo and Biagia di Blanda.
Liborio Bellomo names three children in his 1927 naturalization petition: the oldest is Salvatore, born 25 April 1915 in New York.
Salvatore's parents evidently married the previous year. A margin note in Liborio's baptismal record says that Liborio married Biagia di Blanda on 7 June 1914 in the chiesa di S. Lucia on East 104th St., in New York.[2] This is the first of two known marriages for Liborio, confirmed in the civil record.[3]
Salvatore's father remarries in 1918 to Giuseppa Catania, who is also from Corleone. Liborio and Giuseppa have two more children: Marianna, born in 1919 in New York, and Leoluca, born in 1922 in Italy.
In 1927, when Liborio petitions for US citizenship, Salvatore lives with his stepmother and half-siblings in Corleone.
On the SS Saturnia sailing from Palermo on 8 January 1932 and arriving in the port of New York on 19 January 1933 (this is probably an incorrect arrival year), a list of US citizens on board includes
6. Salvatore Bellomo, 17, single, born in NYC on 4 April 1915. Handwritten on the form is the information on when he was naturalized, 10/17/32 or 11/22/32 in the consulate in Palermo. He is going to his father Liborio at 169 E. 92nd St, NYC.[4]
In 1937, Salvatore's half-brother, Leoluca, joins their father in New York. His travel manifest confirms his mother's name. Their father's WWII draft card names Leo Bellomo at his own home address as his contact person.
An air passenger manifest dates 20 March 1948, embarking in Rome and disembarking in New York City, passenger #3 is Salvatore Bellomo, age 33 (b. 1915), US citizen. Going to 751 E. 187th St, Bronx NY
Passenger #4 is scribbled out but was going to the same address. This may be Giuseppa Catania, Salvatore's stepmother.[5] She is 63 (b. 1885), a match for her age at marriage to Liborio, and Italian.[6]
Salvatore remarries to Giovanna di Giglia in Manhattan on 4 May 1949.[7]
Bill Feather's Mafia membership website names Salvatore Bellomo (1915-1980) as a soldier in the Genovese crime family, active in the 1960-70s, and the father of Liborio S. Bellomo, the current boss of the Genovese Family.[8] Salvatore is named as a Genovese soldier and Liborio's father in a book about Vincent "The Chin" Gigante.[9]
Salvatore and Giovanna have one known child, Liborio Salvatore/Barney (1957).
Salvatore's son, Liborio S., is called "Barney." So is his double first cousin, Liborio T., who is two years younger. The two Barneys are both Genovese Family members. Their fathers are brothers and their mothers are sisters. [10][11] Salvatore has only one known brother, his younger half-brother, Leo.
Liborio Salvatore is born 8 January 1957[12] in Corleone. He is active in New York's Genovese Family beginning in the 1980s.[13]
Salvatore Bellamo, age 65, born 25 April 1915 in New York, dies in January 1980. He last resided in the Bronx, 10465.[14]
