Liborio Bellomo is born 27 May 1879 and baptized the next day in Corleone. He is the son of Giuseppe Salvatore Bellomo and Marianna Nicolosi. His godparents are Vito Liggio and Vincenza, his sister, both unmarried.
The manifest from a 1926 voyage of the Patria indicates Liborio has lived in the United States, from 1914 to 1925.
These three passengers appear on a 1913 manifest traveling from Palermo to New York:
Liborio Bellomo, Salvatore Bellomo, and Vincenzo Bellomo[1]
A margin note in his baptismal record says that Liborio marries Biagia di Blanda on 7 June 1914 in the chiesa di S. Lucia on East 104th St., in New York.[2] This is the first of two known marriages for Liborio, both confirmed in the civil records for New York City.
Liborio Bellomo, age 33 (b. 1881) born in Italy, the son of Salvatore Bellomo and Marianna Nicolosi, marries Biagia Diblanda, age 26 (b. 1888), born in Italy, the daughter of Girolamo Diblanda and Calogera Tirrita, on 7 June 1914 in Manhattan.[3]
Liborio is widowered and remarries in 1918.
Liborio Bellomo ("Leborio Bellowe"), age 39 (b. 1879), a widower, born in Italy, the son of Salvatore Bellomo and Marianna Nicolosi ("Nicolaso"), marries Giuseppa Catania, age 33 (b. 1885), born in Italy, the daughter of Leoluca Catania and Vincenza Pomilla ("Pennella"), on 23 September 1918 in Manhattan.[4]
Liborio’s second wife connects him through marriage to Mafia boss Tommy Gagliano, whose wife is Giuseppa Pomilla. Giuseppa Catania and Gagliano’s wife are first cousins.
Liborio names three children in his 1927 naturalization petition:
Based on the dates of Liborio's marriages, Salvatore, the eldest, named after Liborio's father, is his son with Biagia, his first wife; Marianna and Leoluca, named after Liborio's mother and Giuseppa's father, are Liborio's children with his second wife. A 1937 travel manifest confirms that Leoluca is Giuseppa's son.

Liborio is a shoemaker with his own business, from his home. His nearest relative is Joe Bellomo (probably his brother, Gioachino) at the same address. Liborio is of medium height and build with brown eyes and black hair.[5]
On 24 April 1923, Liborio Bellomo, age 44 (b. 1879), married, arrives in New York on the Canada. He is married, born in Corleone, and leaves his wife Giuseppa Catania in Corleone. He is meeting his brother in law, Salvatore Bellomo, at 232 East 748 St. (74th St)[6]

He is carrying $200 and joining his cousin Lorenzo Billitteri at 526 E 14th St., NY. Born in Palermo.[8]
Bellomo and Mucera, above, both planned to sail on a different voyage of the Patria, leaving Palermo on 10 March 1926. Their names are crossed out and a typed list at bottom confirms they did not sail.[9]
The larger party with whom Bellomo and Mucera intended to travel on the tenth, and indeed traveled with on the fifth of March aboard the Patria, include known drug traffickers Nicolo’ Guastella and Paolo Sciortino, both with close ties to the San Jose', California Mafia, controlled by the Bonanno Family. Also with them is one other man from Corleone, Concetto Antonino Cannella.
Marseilles is an important location in narcotics trafficking. The year is also significant in Mafia history because it is when the purge of Mafia from Sicily carried out by the Fascists is at its highest intensity.
