Sydney was born in 1904. He was the son of Harriet Louisa Barnett and Unknown Father.
Sydney was adopted by the Diez family when he was very young. His adoptive parents Charles Diez and Mary Unknown are buried in Rawene Cemetery, Northland.
He married Edith May Marris in 1937.
They went on to have five children.
On 22 September 1941 he was charged in the Otorohanga Court with two counts of theft. He was fined £5 on one charge, and convicted and discharged on the other. He was described at 5' 8" in height, with blue eyes and brown hair.
On 11 February 1942 he was tried at the Otorohanga Court for theft. He was sentenced to come up if called upon in 1 year.
When the 2nd World War broke out Sydney was working as a sharemilker in Te Kuiti in the Waikato. He enrolled and served as a Private with the Infantry Brigade, Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. His next of kin was recorded as Mrs. E.M. Diez, c/o B. Guy, Kio Kio R.D., Otorohanga (wife). Service No: 612492
Sydney returned from the War.
In the 1946 NZ Electoral Rolls he was living at 75 Ellis Street, Hamilton West with his wife Edith. He was working as a Labourer.
In the 1981 NZ Electoral Rolls he was living at 139 Ellis Street, Hamilton West with his wife Edith. He was retired.
He passed away in 2002 at the age of 98 and was cremated.
