Biography

John Barker, son of William Barker and Amie Wood, was born in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, 9 Mar 1758.[2] Settled by Europeans in about 1652 and named for the town of the same name in Devon, England, the town of Dartmouth hugs the southern coast of modern Massachusetts, bordered on the north by Fall River, east by New Bedford, west by Westport and south by Buzzard's Bay.[3]

John married Susannah Slocum, of Rhode Island, in 1782.[5] John and his two sons Abraham and Slocum were granted a certificate to the Saratoga monthly meeting (later known as Easton) from the Dartmouth monthly meeting on 21d of 5m 1792 [21 May 1792].[6] His wife Susanna and their children Benjamin, Isaac, and Susanna followed shortly thereafter.

They resided in Cambridge.[6]

John died, 1 Dec 1842, at age 84, presumably in or around White Creek, Washington County, New York, where he's buried in Barker Cemetery.[7]
