Biography

James Barker, son of William Barker and Hannah Wood, was born in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, 8 May 1750.^[2] Settled by Europeans in about 1652 and named for the town of the same name in Devon, England, the town of Dartmouth hugs the southern coast of modern Massachusetts, bordered on the north by Fall River, east by New Bedford, west by Westport and south by Buzzard's Bay.^[3]
