Biography

Born Jane was born before 1816 and baptised on 24 July 1816 in St Leonard's, Shoreditch, Hackney ^[1]. She was the daughter of John Barber and Elizabeth King.

Marriage Jane married Richard Golledge on 8 February 1841 in Saint John The Baptist, Hoxton, Middlesex ^{[2] [3]} following the death of Richard's first wife, Mary Ann, Jane's aunt.

In 1841 ^[16] Jane (25) and Richard (35) "watchmaker" were living in Surinam Terrace Stratford together with Ann (9), William (5) and Henry (3 months). Also in the household were Ann Wilkins (80) and Ann Barber (20).
Later in 1841 Jane was listed as one of the witnesses of the will of Ann Watkins, her great aunt.
In 1851 ^[17] Jane (34) and Richard (47) "watch maker & parish clerk" were living in Surinam Terrace Stratford together with their children Ann (19), William (15), Henry (10), Mary Ann (6), Emma (4), Alice (2) and Ellen (3 months).
In 1861 ^[18] Jane (44) and Richard (57) "watch maker & Parish clerk" were living in Surinam Terrace Stratford together with their children Richard (27) "clerk in Hudson Bay Company", William (25), Henry (20) "clerk", "Marianne" (16), Emma Jane (14), Alice (12), Ellen (19) and Edward (8).

Richard Golledge "watchmaker of Surinam Terrace Stratford" died age 59 in 1862 ^[19] and was buried on 15 November 1862 in Stratford, St John, Essex ^[20].

In 1871 ^[21] Jane (54) "annuitant" was living at 3 Maryland Point Stratford together with her unmarried children William (34/blind), Emma (24) "school mistress", Alice (22) "school mistress", Edward (18) "clerk", Ellen (20), Robert (15) "scholar", Julia (13) and Kate (11) "scholar".

Died Jane Sophia Golledge "late of 11 Manby-grove Stratford" died age 64 in 1879 ^[22] and was buried on 20 May 1879 in Stratford, St John, Essex ^[23]. Probate was granted on 9 June 1879 to "Henry Golledge of 2 Esher-villas Buxton-road Stratford Collector the son and Edmund Stark of 7 Stanley-terrace Chandos-road Stratford Commercial clerk"; personal estate under £450 ^[24].
