I believe the profiles I've added for my Swain line are comprehensive whereas some parts of my maternal ancestry require further attention.

After joining the German Project I am working on my wife's family, an interesting challenge. However, I'm always pleased to be side-tracked by anyone who needs help or thinks we may have joint ancestors.

Hi Maddy,

Thanks for your message. In the past few months I have been sidetracked away from my family involving the England and Derbyshire Projects as I have been trying to unravel my wife's family which involves the Germany Project of which I am also a member. I shall be returning to my family before long and am looking forward to the continued support of the Derbyshire team who were most helpful in the past. Regards Martin

Hi Martin, I don’t envy you working on German genealogy, it’s hard enough working on the English lines lol! All those profiles help our one family tree wherever they are though. Thanks again for everything you do and I hope to bump into you again somewhere around the project.

Best regards,

Maddy

Dear Germany Project member,

it's annual check-in time 2023. If you still wish to remain a member of the Germany Project, please reply to this post, by stating this intention. If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.

If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

In case you want to communicate, discuss and receive help about WikiTree in German, you might want to check out the WikiTree category at Compgen’s Discourse as well as the German Discord server Ahnenforschung.

Of course there’s still the official WikiTree Discord server, where we usually talk English. Feel free to learn more about Discord and the server at Help:Discord.

Kind regards from Black Forest

Hi Martin. My Swains lived in Washington County, MD. My paternal grandmother was Julia Butler Swain, daughter of George William Swain and Frances Eugenia "Jennie" (Kidwell) Swain. George, born in 1849, was a son of William Swain and Martha Jane (Smith) Swain, who were also parents of Millard Swain, who went to Ogle County, IL. William Swain was born in 1811 or 1812. I do have a bit of genealogy for men who I believe were brothers of William. If you like, please feel free to contact me directly. I'll send my email address in a private message.

Hello Martin, re Nellie Hanstock

I was cleaning out my inbox today and spotted a message of yours from November 2020. I've spent the day working up Nellie's family. Have added her parents and also added her grandfather, William Hanstock. When Nellie's father Thomas died, his parents were indexed as William and Alice Hanstock, so that Yorkshire family looks to be the right one.

Please accept my sincere apologies. It will be interesting to see if the two lines do intersect further back. It's a fairly unusual surname. There's a family originating from Ireland in New South Wales, too.

Warm regards, Christine

Hi Christine,

Many thanks for your message. Frankly I have no idea what I wrote to you back then; I presume in connection with Sarah Ann Hanstock (Hanstock-10) who married my great uncle Edmund Swain in 1892. I have not researched Sarah's family apart from having names for her parents. Her father, John b1850), may be a brother of the William Hanstock b1847 you've entered. Maybe I'll get round to all the "collaterals" one day! Regards Martin

Yes, it was about Sarah Hanstock. While you were entering her profile you noticed Nellie. I should have said, of course. It was 2020 after all! I'll have a little 'play' with them again today and then leave them for someone with a direct family connection.

Cheers, Christine

Hi Claire,

Thanks for the message. I do have one problem. I tried to enter my Ancestry ID under "Ancestry.com user name" on the DNA test page but it didn't work. My membership to Ancestry is with dot co dot uk where the DNA results are stored but it would not accept that user ID. Somewhere else there was a mention of " AncestryDNA user ID"; I'm not aware of having one (?). Can you advise? Thanks Martin

Hi Martin,

It could be the UK part. Hmmm. Let me check into it. I'll get back to you as soon as I learn something.

Best,

Claire

Hi Martin,

Here are two suggestions: 1. Log in to whichever Ancestry you uses. If you click on your name in the top right corner and select Your Account, your username is listed under Account Settings.

2. Are you trying to put the URL of your home page in the Ancestry name spot? Here is a link to Ancestry's help page on finding the Username: https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/Finding-Your-Username.

This might be the same response in two different ways, but I'm passing them on.

Let me know how it works?

Best,

Claire

Hi Claire,

Thanks for your message. I tried the first suggestion and it worked so I didn't bother about the second. Many thanks for your help. Best regards Martin

Hi Janet,

Thanks for your message. Having read some of the links especially Space:England_Project_-_Profile_Standards I think I am not yet ready to delve into pre-1700 as I still have too many biographies to enter in the post-1700 period. But I'll get there in due time. Regards Martin
