Biography

Martha Frances "Fanny Bagby was born about 1841 in Buckingham County, Virginia (birth place listed on death certificate).^{[1] [2][3]} She was the daughter of Jesse Bagby and Ann Armistead.^[3]

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Martha F Bagby, age 10, and her brothers Jesse Bagby, age 15, and Thomas B Bagby, age 7, were recorded living in Buckingham County, Virginia in the household of William and Appolonia Boatwright [recorded as Boatright].^[1]Appolonia was their aunt, sister of their father Jesse.

Ten years later, Martha, age 19, and her younger brother Thomas, age 16. were recorded in the 1860 U.S. Census living with their aunt Appolonia and uncle William Boatwright in Buckingham County (P.O. New Canton), Virginia. ^[2]

She married James M Melton on 20 September 1865 in Cumberland County, Virginia.^[4]

Martha F Melton, age 72, died 17 October 1913 in Ashland, Hanover, Virginia.^[3]
