Research Notes

Notes From Clara's research:

1. Intensive research has failed to find the parentage of Jerusha Content Pitt. Timewise, she could be a daughter of Thomas Pitt of Pembroke and his wife Hannah. Thomas Pitt's will, dated 1795, June 8, names only his son John Thomas Pitt, but indicates that there are other children, both sons and daughters, whose names are not given in the will. (Wills Book 12, p. 258)
2. Identity of Benjamin Atwood's mother as Love Atwood, nee Watkins, is found in the administration of the estate of Benjamin and Elizabeth Watkins, by their daughter Love Atwood, dated 1815, Sept. 22. (Admin. Book 4, 256, 258)
3. Love Atwood is also named as sister of Elizabeth Pitt, widow of John, in Elizabeth's will, dated 1814, Aug. 8. The same will names Love Atwood as mother of Benjamin Atwood, and Anna Atwood as daughter of Benjamin. (Wills Book 14, p. 100)
4. Love Atwood, of Pembroke, 1796, Dec. 15, deed from Elizabeth Watkins for part of house and about 3 acres of land in Pembroke. (Deeds Book 5, p. 143)
5. Love Watkins Atwood was born in 1755, and died 1833, Oct. 4, aged 78, in Hamilton. (28) Administration of her estate was granted to Benjamin J.T. Atwood, 1835, March 9.(Admin. Book 4, p. 359)
