Joshua was born to Benjamin John Thomas ATWOOD and Jerusha Content PITT on June 25, 1821 in Pembroke Parish, Bermuda. He was baptised on February 24, 1822.
Joshua married Anna Maria SAUNDERS, daughter of Joseph SAUNDERS and Frances CONNOR, on March 22, 1844 at Wesley Church in Hamilton Parish, Bermuda.
