Biography

Elizabeth was the youngest daughter of William de Aton[1] and Isabel de Percy.[2] She was likely to have been born in Yorkshire where her father's lands lay.[3][4] Her birth date is not known, but her parents married before January 1326/7[5][6] and her first husband died in about 1363:[4] against that background, it has been guesstimated as about 1340. Elizabeth was her father's co-heir.[7]

Elizabeth married twice. Her first husband was William Playce,[2] son of Thomas Playce and Joan de Suggeston.[3][4] They had one known child:

William Playce died in about 1363: on 7 January 1363 Elizabeth's father referred in a legal agreement to his acting as her "receiver" at Gristhorpe and Lebberston, Yorkshire, properties which had been her first husband's.[10] Elizabeth's second husband was John Conyers,[2] son of Roger de Conyers.[3][4][1] They had at least one child:

A 1385 deed by her father referred to her as late wife of Sir William Placye (father of Sir William Placye) and wife of John Conyers.[11]

John Conyers died a little before 6 March 1395/6.[2] Elizabeth survived him, dying in 1402. Her Will, dated 25 April 1402, was proved on 1 May 1402. In it she asked to be buried at the church of the Friars Minor in York.[3][4][12]
