Biography

Jane Andrus was born about 1844.

Jane was the daughter of Thomas Andrus and Elizabeth Beardsley. ^[1]

Jane appears to have married Jerome Andrus (her 2nd cousin), son of Darwin Andrus and Elisabeth Naomi Andrus and to have been the mother of Mary Jane (Andrus) Bair. Mary was born 9 December 1962.^{[2] [3]}

Jane Andrus died at age eighteen.^[1]

Mary Janes' mother is known to have died when Mary was 3 weeks old, which would place Jane's death right at the end of December in 1862. ^[2] Mary was adopted by Jared and Elizabeth (Andrus) Beardsley, who would be her aunt and uncle. ^[3]

Given that Jane died at age 18, her birth year by calculation would be 1844.

Jane Andrus is buried in East Canton Cemetery, Canton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA. ^[4]

Just a thought about her name. Jane's full name may have been Mary Jane Andrus, with her daughter named after her. That could explain why the handwritten biography for Mary Jane records her parents as Jhon (sic) and Mary Andrus.^[2]

Her probable husband, Jerome Andrus, died at the age of 45, or in about 1877.^[5]

An ongoing connection between Jerome Andrus' family, through his sister Huldah (Andrus) Wilhelm and the Thomas Andrus' family, is seen in the 1882 and 1885 Nebraska Census Records.

On 1882, Huldah and Samuel are living next door to Thomas and Eliza Anudrus in Tipton, Cass, Nebraska.^[6]

On 11 June 1885, Thomas Andrus ( his age is enumerated wrong) and Eliza are living in Tipton, Cass, Nebraska. Living with them are their son Truman and his family. They are living next door to their son Rodney Andrus and his wife Anna. Next door to Rodney are Hilda and Samuel Wilhelm. Hilda was the daughter of Darwin Andrus and sister to Jerome Andrus.^[7]

Research Notes

• Could Mary Jane (Andrus) Bair's birth year been 1863, instead of 1862? For Jerome Andrus is listed as being married in 1863 in Canton on the Civil War Draft Registration. I doubt he would have remarried so quickly after Jane's death.
