Andrew William, son of Duncan Anderson & Isabella Prentice, was born on 5 May 1859 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland.^[1]

Andrew's marriage to Elizabeth Livingstone Dalziel (aged 16) on the 5 May 1879 at St Andrew's Church in Dundee was registered in 1879 in the St Andrew (Dundee) district.^[2][3]

In 1881 Andrew and Elizabeth were in Dundee, but had already been to Dunbar where Elizabeth’s mother and grandfather were then resident. They were staying at 50 King Street, Dundee; also present in the household was Margaret Rodgie Morton, aged 3, the daughter of Elizabeth’s sister Jane; the child was usually resident in Edinburgh.^[4]

In 1891 the family were in residence at 89 High Street Dunbar, their apartment had three rooms with windows – and doubled as Andrew’s business premises.^[5]

In 1901 the family was still at 89 High Street, Dunbar, but Jane was not at home.^[6]

In 1911 now at 142 High Street, a flat with 4 windowed rooms, Andrew and Elizabeth had been married for 31 years and had 8 living children from 8 births. Duncan, Isabella and James were no longer in the family home. Andrew had a shop on the High Street at number 113 High Street, at first leased and then purchased.^[7]

Andrew's death on the 31 May 1923 (age 64 and retired) at 142 High Street, Dunbar was registered in 1923 in the Dunbar district (certificate signed by son Alex).^[8]
